It probably comes as little surprise that where you live heavily influences your home décor style. Furniture brand Joybird conducted research using Google Trends data to better understand home décor style across the United States — and the results were interesting, to say the least!
Joybird was able to report the top searched home décor style in each state – capturing styles from bohemian and shabby chic to mid-century modern and art deco (and everything in between).
To our surprise, there were few areas on the map with large clusters of the same top-searched style. Many southern states showed interest in shabby chic, and a few east-coast states search for bohemian most often. The upper Midwest favored industrial styles, and a few states throughout the eastern half of the country preferred contemporary styles (with no representation in the western half of the country). Seventeen states shared the same top-searched design style as a neighboring state — meaning that many states had top-searched design styles somewhat unique to them.
Victorian was the top-searched home décor style in 10 states, closely followed by bohemian, the top -searched décor style in nine states. Contemporary was another popular home décor style, topping the list in seven states.
Here’s Joybird’s breakdown of the top-searched styles in 10 of America’s most populous states:
