Over the last two months, I have had the amazing opportunity to intern at Mr. Cooper Group as a Capital Markets Intern. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and everything that I have learned with it. As my internship is wrapping up, I would like to take some time to reflect on the various skills and lessons I have learned while working here.
This experience has been extremely rewarding and humbling. I have learned valuable skills that I will continue to develop and use in my future endeavors. The first few days were challenging, and I realized that I had a lot to learn. My manager, Nick Gustitus, AVP Business Intelligence, was incredibly supportive and provided guidance on my projects. I was able to apply the skills I learned from my college classes to various real-world projects. One of the most interesting projects I worked on was constructing a Best-Efforts Rate Sheet Calculator using a combination of Excel and SQL Server to operate it.
It was intriguing to see how prices fluctuated and the numerous factors that affected these changes. Other interesting projects that I have worked on include using data manipulations and different modeling techniques to identify Mr. Cooper’s revenue reporting and loan volume trends; utilizing SQL Server Management Studio to analyze and identify trends in mortgage and DTC pricing; and constructing a table to identify and understand trends concerning how margin and loan data affect volume.
Furthermore, I was able to achieve goals I had set at the start of my internship. I was able to learn more about SQL and become well-versed in using SQL Server Management Studio. Not only was I able to improve my technical skills, but I also worked on my soft skills such as relationship building with peers and team members, and building a network of advisors and mentors.
I would like to thank Nick for all his guidance and help during this internship! Also, a huge thank you to Valencia Woodard and Jessica Hsieh, the intern program’s directors, for making this internship both an exciting and excellent experience with so many learning outcomes. Thank you, Mr. Cooper, for a fantastic internship. I am excited to continue applying all that I have learned here!
