In continuation of our Meet Mr. Cooper Leadership Series, we’d like to introduce our Chief Executive Officer, Jay Bray. Jay has close to 25 years of experience in the mortgage industry. He joined the company in 2000 and has served as CEO since 2012. We asked Jay some questions about his role at Mr. Cooper and his goal to make every customer’s dream of homeownership a reality.
Describe your role at Mr. Cooper in simple terms. How does your work ultimately benefit the homeowners we serve?
I am honored to lead our amazing team as we work together to keep the dream of home ownership alive. Each person on the Mr. Cooper team, including me, is responsible for owning the customer experience and ensuring our customers have the information and support they need on their journey to homeownership. Aside from a focus on radical customer service, I’m also dedicated to making sure our team members love what they do, have the tools and resources they need and enjoy coming to work each day.
What does “home” mean to you, and how does that meaning motivate your work?
Home is not about a mortgage or even a physical structure; it’s a place of solace. It’s where you feel most comfortable and where you create family memories and build relationships. I know I always love to come home! And I want our customers to have that same experience.
Describe the ideal home loan experience you’re working to deliver for Mr. Cooper customers.
I want each and every one of our customers to enjoy their path to homeownership. I want to give them the information they need to be smart homeowners and feel comfortable with their home investment. My goal is that every Mr. Cooper customer views us as a partner for all of their home needs…and that all of their friends and family do too!
Please share one habit, tactic or “hack” you swear by to stay on top of all your responsibilities.
Clarity and specificity, particularly when it comes to setting goals. I have long-term goals that I strive for but also short-term goals that I set each day to help me stay on task.
What is Mr. Cooper’s greatest strength?
Mr. Cooper’s greatest strength is simple. It’s all about the people on our team who come to work every day with a passion to create the best customer-first company in financial services.
