Especially if you have plans to sell your home, chances are, you’ve thought about deep cleaning your space. Really, there’s no better time to start tackling those cleaning challenges than when you’re getting your home ready to sell. And if the process of cleaning your house has you feeling overwhelmed, fear not. Mr. Cooper has you covered with 8 of our favorite tips to a clean house from professional cleaners.
1. Clean Carpet Stains With An Iron
Start by spraying the carpet stain with a mixture of three parts water to one part white vinegar, then place a clean towel over the treated area and use a hot iron to pull out the stain.
2. Use Lemon To Sanitize Your Garbage Disposal
Lemon acts as a great deodorizer, so it also works well when your garbage disposal needs to be cleaned. Ice cubes and salt can also help get rid of gunk and grime in your disposal, and you can even make your own lemon ice cubes by filling up an ice cube tray with water and dropping lemon peels into each cube.
3. Soak Showerheads In Vinegar
If you notice that your showerhead isn’t properly spraying or if you can visibly see rust or grime, it’s probably time to clean your showerhead. Fill a plastic bag with vinegar and secure it to your showerhead to let it soak for a couple of hours.
4. Use Drain Cleaner For Stained Concrete
You’ve likely used drain cleaner to clear out your drains, but did you know that you can also use the solution to clean stains on concrete? Simply pour the drain cleaner directly onto the stained concrete and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Then, scrub away the stain using a brush.
5. Vacuum Strategically
Have you ever noticed how perfectly the carpets are vacuumed when a professional cleans them? There’s a reason for that. Professionals suggest vacuuming horizontally and then vertically to ensure the carpet is thoroughly cleaned from two different directions.
6. Skip The Furniture Polish
Sure, you want your furniture and surfaces to shine when your home is on the market, but furniture polish can actually create build-up on your surfaces (which, over time, can make them dirtier). Instead of using polish when you dust, simply dust with a clean rag and wash the rag between uses.
7. Use Lemon To Clean Stainless Steel
Lemon can be used to remove hard water stains on stainless steel sinks, faucets, and other various appliances. Simply cut a lemon in half and rub the surface with the lemon then rinse with warm water.
8. Use Vegetable Or Coconut Oil To Clean Kitchen Cabinets
Kitchen cabinets can trap a lot of grease from cooking, so it’s important to clean them regularly. Using one part vegetable or coconut oil and two parts baking soda, scrub the buildup with a small brush until the grime is gone and your cabinets look new again.
